Christian Panjaitan

A two-time Brighter Futures Scholarship recipient, Christian Panjaitan is an emerging Indonesian-Australian composer, conductor, pianist, and educator completing a Bachelor of Music (Composition) at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Collaborating with emerging and established Brisbane-based ensembles, including Ensemble Opulous, Topology, The Australian Voices, and has had works performed across Oceania – from Brisbane’s QPAC to the Sydney Opera House to Auckland’s Civic Theatre.

A consecutive winner of the Australian Society of Music Education Young Composer’s Award, Christian studies under the tutelage of noted composer/flautist, Michal Rosiak, and has received mentorship from major Australian composer, John Rotar. He also looks forward to completing an Honours dissertation and artistic folio in 2027. His compositional voice features a lush and instantly appealing blend of neoclassicism and contemporary classical, with a subtle touch of traditional Indonesian music.

As a performer and educator, Christian is the 2026 conductor-in-training for the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra and teaches more than 20 piano students at the Australian Academy of Music in Brendale. Away from the composer’s desk, you may also find him indulging in a love for ancient literature and silent film, or speedcubing with an ever-growing collection of puzzles.
